DWARF FORTRESS ASCII MODDING MODS
General Modding Question: There are mods that just need to sit in the /mods folder and some that require repacking into other. (At least, from what I remember when I looked at some modpacks from FTB.) But, there are a lot of modpacks to look through and a lot of descriptions for individual mods have to looked up, individually, else I wouldn't know what was actually in them. I might decide just to go with FTB, exclusively, since it seems that it is generally kept up to date.

The only reason I decided not to use a modpack was that I didn't want to get overloaded on my first foray into modding. (Instead just another collection of randomly generated scenery) What are some good, stable, frequently maintained and updated, mods that provide new places, new mobs, and new things to do in the world that you like or you think I would like? I like the idea of "Roguelike Dungeons" which spawn randomly generated dungeons with nasty monsters and loot - It gives me something to look forward to as I'm walking over the next hill. jar apparently call an outside database in order to function properly, am I supposed to worry about that?

What gives? How am I to know what mods are compatible or not when, apparently, a mod that says it's designed to work with 1.8 doesn't appear to do anything in 1.8? Are any mods backward compatible?ĥ) 1337 Haxxors - What's the deal with that? What do I need to know about it and what do I need to be careful of that is specific to Minecraft? For instance, if something supposedly mods the launcher, then I'm supposed to be worried about that, yes? But, when. Version compatibility issues between mods and the main game seem to be a terribly frequent problem. Am I correct? What do I need to know about them? (The homepages/links I've found appear to be frequented by assholes who get confused when people ask questions about their brilliantly designed, perfect in every way, mods.)Ĥ) Minecraft changes versions more frequently than I change underwear. Are these overlays/front-ends/loaders that prevent collisions/incompatibilities? I assume they help make modding safer inasmuch as crashes and corruption issues are concerned and help to prevent corruption of the main game files. I need Minecraft-specific basic knowledge of do's and don'ts."ģ) I see there are things like Forge, Modloader, etc. (WTF is wrong with this community?)Ģ) What's a good site with basic information about Minecraft modding that is aimed at introducing new users to the subject? (I'm "mod savvy" for general gaming, so that's not an issue. right? Everyone trying out for their "Console Captain" ribbon, I guess.ġ) What are trustworthy hosting sites for Minecraft mods? It seems as if many popular mods run off to start their own host and fill it up with Adfly crap, or similar, and abandon updating their mod versions on other sites. So, I take a look around for some help and most of what I find is U LERN 2 COMPUTOR STOOPID!$%^!%^." /sighĪfter digging through and doing whatever the poorly written, jargon filled, non-descriptive "help" instructions say, I'm still no closer to a solution.ĭownloaded some other mods, same issues, no workie, nothing but flak available in way of "advice" or "help."Īnd, on top of all this, it appears that Minecraft is only slightly less targeted by hackers than World of Warcraft. But, with mods, there are all sorts of possibilities!Įxcept, it appears the Minecraft Modding community is run by adolescents with bad attitudes and basement-dwelling code-monkeys with very poor people skills.įor instance, I downloaded "Forge", which is supposed to be A Good Thing ™ and a very helpful utility to help load mods and prevent conflicts and that sort of thing, I guess. And, I didn't really want to go through the whole redstone-contraption building thing.

There was little purpose in it, few goals to achieve, some I didn't even feel like trying. I wanted an open-world sort of laid back building experience and it looked like a good fit.īut, after awhile, it became boring.
